About Us

Heroes Today is a grassroots organization committed to assist veterans of all eras, it is our mission to address the problems our veterans are facing in the communities we operate in and empower them to succeed. Therefore, Heroes Today is ready to assertively address the needs of homeless veterans both men and women by removing barriers that hinder our veterans and provide informal referrals to assist these veterans.
The Chester chapter of Heroes Today is the first veteran support organization in that area since WWII. The initial objectives and goals for this chapter are to provide the veteran in the Chester area with informal referrals that assist in acquiring personal development resources, drug and alcohol addiction treatment, spirituality enlightenment, food resources, shelter resources, family healing exercises, resume writing instruction, job development resources and job placement.
The Pittsburgh chapter of the organization has evolved to become a community leader in providing education and training to support the effectiveness and awareness of providers and the community. These workshops and training events are focused on the up to date issues that our young veterans face when returning from combat.

Our Founder / Chief Executive Officer Frederick J. Johnson Jr. also offers his services throughout the community for presentations to organizations and individuals on the issues that face our Iraq / Afghanistan veterans and our currently homeless veterans.  He also shares firsthand information about the issues he faced upon his return from Iraq as a homeless veteran who suffered from an active addiction. These presentations are focused on educating individuals or groups on the issues of drug and alcohol abuse in the veteran community and the issues with personal development and career empowerment in the veteran community upon return from combat.
